Day 53 - Equality
When we recognize everyone as our equal, including those with whom we disagree, true opportunities for dialogue emerge.
Reflection
- Equality is important because it is the foundation of any fair society where each member has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.
Action
- When you listen to people today, listen to them as equals; when you speak, speak to others as equals.
- Enrich your life by considering how you can invite different people and unusual experiences into your life today.
"I speak not for myself but for those without voice... those who have fought for their rights... their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity, their right to be educated."
Malala Yousafzai
“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
“It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
“Exclusion is never the way forward on our shared paths to freedom and justice”
Desmond Tutu
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
